Zack Leslie - Guelph Storm
6'1" - 180 LBS
D.O.B. January 31, 1994
Zack Leslie is in his first season with the Storm. Leslie was the Storm's 4th round selection in the 2010 OHL Priority Draft. He played for the Gloucester Rangers of the Central Canada Hockey League prior to his draft where he recorded 13 goals and 22 assists in 56 games. This after going pointless in his first 15 games.
Prior to joining the Rangers, Leslie played Midget AAA for the Ottawa Jr 67's where, in 44 games he had 10 goals and 25 assists.
Leslie is a smooth skating defenseman who can provide some offense from the back end. Two things he needs to work on are his speed and his shot. He sees the ice well and makes good passes. You get glimpses of him rushing the puck and will probably see more as the confidence grows. He gets good power play time. His defensive game has improved since the start of the season, so much so that he is getting penalty kill time.
At 6'1", Leslie has some size but will need to add some bulk. His work ethic is good during a game and at practice. If he can continue at that while gaining more confidence each and every game, we'll be hearing a lot more about Zack Leslie. That's not to say he will become a first round pick by any means with the talented defensemen available in this draft. But if he continues on his current path, he'll make scouts pay attention.
