Tanner Richard - Guelph Storm
5'11" 170 LBS
D.O.B. April 6, 1993
Guelph Storm GM Mike Kelly said it best following the CHL Import Draft : "We are excited to select Tanner. He is a very good player who already has experience playing against men in a very strong Swiss A League. Richard has huge upside. He fits our need for a top 6 forward who will be with us for the next two seasons,"
Richard has the bloodlines of a hockey player. His father Mike played in the OHL for the Toronto Marlboros in the 1980's. He has dual citizenship as both Canadian and Swiss.
He's not the biggest player but is deceptively strong. Richard is an excellent skater with very good speed and he reaches his top speed very quickly. He is an excellent puck handler with very good vision. He is also shifty and can power through defenses despite his size. He is excellent in one on one situations.
Richard is an extremely talented offensive player who produced offensively even when playing against men. He even got a taste of action in the Swiss Elite League.
The one part of Richard's game that will have to improve is his defensive game, and a couple of seasons in the OHL should rectify that.
