Yegor Malenkikh - Soo Greyhounds
6'4" - 200 LBS
D.O.B. January 22, 1994
Malenkikh was the Greyhounds first pick, 4th overall in the CHL Import Draft. Their other selection, David Elsner of Germany, was 34th overall. He was selected by Nashville with their 7th round pick in 2010.
Malenkikh was also a first round pick, 4th overall, of SKA St Petersburg in the 2011 KHL Junior Draft. He is also on the NHL Central Scouting list of players to watch for the 2012 NHL Entry Draft from Russia.
The Greyhounds boast a young and talented defense core that will improve this coming season. Malenkikh will compliment them with his 3 zone play. Although more noted for his defensive play, he moves the puck well. He's a mobile skater considering his size. He also possesses a heavy point shot. He also enjoys a physical game and once he adds bulk to his frame, he can become quite punishing.
There are some that question whether Malenkikh will come to North America to play junior, but his agent says that he will be at training camp in August.
Queries to the Soo Greyhounds were not answered.
