Windsor Spitfires Vice-President and General Manager Warren Rychel today announced the signing of American forward Ben Johnson to an OHL contract and education package. Johnson, a free agent acquisition by Windsor, scored 37 goals and added 40 assists for 77 points in 30 games with Calumet High School in Michigan. He also played four games for the United States Under-17 Development Program (USDP) and scored four goals with five points. (Full Story)

Johnson shared in winning the Mr Hockey award, voted on by coaches, as the top high school player in Michigan.

He brings top notch speed with excellent puck handling abilities. He is an excellent playmaker who plays with a pass first mentality, but is not afraid to take a shot of his own if a pass isn't there. He has an above average shot and a scoring punch of his own.

Johnson brings a tenacious work ethic with him to Windsor. The Spitfires are in somewhat of a rebuilding stage with the loss of some assets heading to the NHL or AHL so the opportunity for Johnson to showcase his skills will be there for him.
